Printed “Boutique” Duct Tapes Create New Tape Market

duct tape from thetapeworks.comAfter standing on the sidelines for several years while arts and crafts types took duct tape and re-purposed it to entirely new uses, major tape manufacturers have stepped up to recognize this market.

The old school model of using yards of duct tape to secure cables to the floor, sometimes taping the same mic cable or extension cord down day after day, doesn’t work with these custom tapes. The product was known as an “expendable” and depended on the tape ending up in the trash at the end of the day.

In the hands of someone making crafts, a 60 yard roll of tape can be a lifetime supply.

New products have addressed this decrease in volume use in two primary ways.

1.  Roll sizes for specialty duct tapes have decreased dramatically.

It is not uncommon to see a 10 yard roll of tape for sale in a crafts store for the same price as a 60 yard roll for sale in the hardware store across the street.

2. New colors and printed tapes.

If you are serious about duct tape craft, fashion and art, there are now more than a dozen colors available and lots of printed tapes that may even use licensed characters.  Instead of selling someone a case of 24 rolls of silver duct tape, you hope that they will buy 24 different rolls, each a different color or print.
