New Tape Intended For Building Prefab Houses
We have been a proponent of using tape for fabricating temporary shelter for a long time (hexayurtape.com) but a new product in development at the Franhofer Institute for Wood Research is really upping the game.
They have designed a quick setting adhesive tape intended for permanent bonding of the components of prefabricated houses. The tape is said to set within a minute and to provide a long lived bond comparable to welding.
The tape has a metal substrate with adhesive coating on both sides. An electrical current is used to begin the bonding process which actually allows the adhesive to get into the pores of building material like wood.
