Michelin Research Could Lead To More Stable Tape Adhesive Prices
French tire manufacturer Michelin has partnered with renewable fuels company Amyris to develop rubber that is made from renewable materials.
The two companies are working to develop renewable isoprene, a chemical used in the making of synthetic rubber.
Working from raw materials found in renewable organic feedstocks, the partnership hopes to be able to bring the product to market by 2015, hopefully having an impact on the manufacturing of adhesives for products like gaffers tape.
This development has the potential to stabilize the raw materials market for tape adhesives that are currently exposed to the volatility of the imported natural latex market.
